Where Coaching Adds Value
The install handles: artifact coaching: reviewing what gets typed in: draft OKRs, narratives, plans. Tireless, instant, doctrinally exact.
The human coaches the person, not the artifact, and works at the exact point the system is blind: data entry. The learning cycle corrupts where honesty meets consequences (massaged progress, confidence theatre); a coach hears the wavering voice in the check-in, sees the green that's actually amber, notices the OKR Lead avoiding a conversation for the third week. What never gets typed in can only be sensed in the room.
Judgement transfer, through reps: Strategy as Craft made contractual: the coach sits beside real cycles, letting the lead make the call and reviewing it after: when to pivot, how to grade a messy quarter (Retrospectives), how to run a red-confidence conversation without killing candour. The goal is a person who no longer needs the answer, which is the one outcome an answer machine cannot produce.
Push-back: "you're describing a task and calling it an outcome, again," said by someone who watched you do it last cycle and will watch next cycle. Memory plus stakes.
Why external specifically: fewer biases: not the boss, so honesty is safe and there's no stake in the coachee looking good (Psychological Safety with a stranger's licence); forcing function: session cadence is practice cadence; new perspectives: "every first-time OKR lead does exactly this in week 3" is pattern relief no colleague can offer.

The install handles the knowing. This is the part it can’t do.
